Geoff Barron took 5-58 in the second innings in 3rd Grade vs University of NSW at Sutherland Oval. Combined with his 5-23 in the first innings, it gave him 10 wickets in the match.

Daniel Rixon made his 1st Grade debut in a Limited Overs match vs UTS-Balmain at Drummoyne Oval.

Steve Woodley took 7-13 & 3-12 in AWG vs Waverley at Waverley Oval – the best match figures in AWG (in the days before AWG matches became L/O matches).

24 December 1977

Poidevin-Gray Shield defeated St.George at Caringbah Oval – the first time any of the 11 team members had played in a winning team against Saints!

Sutherland 7/232 off 44 (8-ball) overs (Warren Moodie 79, Ken Hudson 57, Steve Wishart 33) d. St.George 5/229 dec off 46 overs (Mark Preddey 2-47, John Heath 2-60).

Colin Dodd scored 111 in P-G Shield vs Randwick at Caringbah Oval – the then record PGs score.

Sutherland 8/282 (Colin Dodd 111, Barry Davison 77) d. Randwick 129 (Bob Duff 0, Bob Wade 6-59).

Glen Bailey took 5-46 in P-G Shield vs St.George at Hurstville Oval.

Steve Edmonds took 6-26 in P-G Shield vs Bankstown-Canterbury at Bankstown Oval.

In P-G Shield, openers Warren Moodie & Tom Iceton both fell cheaply to Randwick pace bowler Mike Whitney at the SCG No.2. Moodie was leg before wicket first ball of the innings and Iceton was out in the third over, caught at first slip for 1 by future NSW player Gary Bensley.

Phil Jaques made his Test debut (alongside Glenn McGrath) for Australia vs South Africa in the 2nd Test at the MCG. This was the first time that two current SDCC players had played together in a Test.

Andrew Hilditch scored 113 in P-G Shield vs St.George at Hurstville Oval.

Malcolm McDonald took 8-86 in 3rd Grade vs Central Cumberland at Old King’s Oval.

27 December 1977

In P-G Shield, opener Tom Iceton was dropped and replaced by David Givney for the match vs University of NSW at Caringbah Oval. Givney didn’t fare any better in the opening role, falling leg before wicket for 0 in the first over of the innings to Geoff Lawson (who had played for NSW Colts the week before and went on to make his Sheffield Shield debut in February 1978).
