In P-G Shield, openers Warren Moodie & Tom Iceton both fell cheaply to Randwick pace bowler Mike Whitney at the SCG No.2. Moodie was leg before wicket first ball of the innings and Iceton was out in the third over, caught at first slip for 1 by future NSW player Gary Bensley.

Givney didn’t fare any better in the opening role, falling leg before wicket for 0 in the first over of the innings to Geoff Lawson (who had played for NSW Colts the week before and went on to make his Sheffield Shield debut in February 1978).
