Steve Smith Medal for Player of the Season

The Player of the Season Award was instituted in the 1974-75 season and was known as the James A. Daly Memorial Award. As was announced at last year’s Presentation Night, after 50 years, the Award has been renamed as the Steve Smith Medal. Steve Smith is one of our greatest cricketers, being the first Sutherland junior to captain Australia. To date, he has played 116 Tests for Australia and is our best performed Test batsman after Don Bradman. He passed the 10000 Test runs and 200 Test catches milestones in Sri Lanka earlier this year. Before he started his international career, he won our Player of the Season Award four times, in 2004-05, 2006-07, 2007-08 & 2008-09.

The winner was Tharindu Kaushal. As Tharindu is playing cricket in England, he was unable to accept the Medal in person.
