Vale John Kenny - Tue 17 Jun

It is with great regret that we advise of the sad passing of John Kenny, father of former players Gavin & Justin, on Wednesday 11 June after a battle with dementia. John played 18 matches for the Club, taking 49 wickets at an average of 15.0 with his left-arm medium pacers, including a memorable season in 1982-83 when he captained 4th Grade. In all grades that season, he took 38 wickets at 15.9, including 35 wickets at 13.9 in 4ths, with 8-42 & 2-9 vs Northern District and 6-24 (including a hat-trick) vs North Sydney his best performances. He filled in in 4ths for a match vs Balmain in 1984-85, taking 5-52 – my 4th Grade report for that season read “John Kenny showed he’s still got it!” John also served on the Club’s management committee for 5 years, from 1983-84 to 1986-87 and in 1988-89. He was a great supporter of the Club throughout Gav & Jake’s careers.

To John’s wife Noelyne, and to Gavin, Justin, Dana and Martin and their families, we extend our sincere condolences. The family is having a private cremation and celebration of John’s life on Friday, followed by a wake at The Prince Kirrawee, 533-541 Princes Highway, Kirrawee from 5pm. All are welcome.
