Since 1965
It is with deep regret that we advise that Graham Warry, First Grade player #44, passed away early last Saturday morning after a long battle with cancer. He was aged 75. Graham joined SDCC in 1966-67 and played for 11 seasons until 1976-77, when he left to play for Thirroul in the Illawarra competition for two seasons. He returned to the Club for one season in 1979-80 before again leaving to play for Thirroul from 1980-81 to 1983-84. In all grades for SDCC, Graham played 223 matches and scored 5845 runs at an average of 23.1, with a highest score of 98 (run out) in a 1st Grade limited overs match in 1973-74. He also took 109 catches. In first grade, he played 134 matches, scoring 3415 runs at 22.9. He was a member of the 2nd Grade Premiership team in 1967-68.
During Graham’s career with Thirroul, he appeared on the club’s honour board as the leading batsman for every season bar his first season with the club. In later years, he played some lower grade cricket with the new Campbelltown club as he was living at Campbelltown at the time. After finishing playing cricket, he became a keen golfer, most recently at Twin Creeks Golf Club for nearly 20 years.
We extend our sincere condolences to Graham’s wife Maria and his many friends. He will be privately cremated. A memorial service to farewell Graham is being planned for late August at Glenn McGrath Oval. Details will be advised in due course.
