Since 1965
It is with deep regret that we advise of the very sad passing of Brendan Drury last weekend after a battle with brain cancer that was diagnosed in March last year. He was only in his early 30s, far too young to be leaving us.
Brendan joined SDCC in AW Green Shield in the 2010-11 season, when he was the leading wicket-taker with 14 wickets at 9.4. The following season, he played mainly 5th Grade where he took 18 wickets at 18.4 in 11 matches. The annual report said “Brendan Drury is a talented all-rounder and a valuable player at fifth grade level.” In 2012-13, he didn’t play a full season, but still managed to take 16 wickets at 11.3 in 6 matches in 5ths. The annual report said “Brendan Drury started the season late but made immediate impact with some fine spells. He was instrumental in two of our wins and that previous year of experience shone through.”
Brendan’s best season with the bat came in 2013-14, when he was the leading run-scorer in 4ths with 346 runs at 28.8, including scores of 106 and 100. The annual report said “Brendan Drury started the season off with a brilliant century in Round 1, only bettered by his second century in Round 4. He has a great temperament and concentration. His batting was a pleasant surprise.” In all grades , Brendan played 50 matches between 2nds and 5ths plus AW Green Shield, scoring 690 runs at 18.2 and taking 56 wickets at 17.1.
To Brendan’s wife Sabine and his two young daughters, as well as his parents, we extend our sincere condolences at their sad loss. May he rest in peace.
