Steve Smith scored 110 in the 1st innings of the 2nd Test at Lord’s. During this innings, he achieved the following milestones:

When he reached 31, he became the second-fastest player to score 9000 runs in Tests, in his 174th innings. Only Kumar Sangakkara reached 9000 faster, in his 172nd innings. It was Steve’s 99th Test – no-one else has reached 9000 in less than 100 Tests.

At the end of day one, he was 85 not out. This took his average for batting on day 1 of Tests to 96.09 (116.57 when Australia sent in to bat).

When he reached his century, he became the fastest player to score 32 centuries in Tests, in his 174th innings (ahead of Ricky Ponting in his 176th and Sachin Tendulkar in his 179th).

He is now equal with Steve Waugh on 32 Test centuries, behind only Ricky Ponting with 41 for Australia.

He became the first player from any country to score 22 centuries in innings #1 of Tests, in his 60th innings. He surpassed Ricky Ponting with 21 centuries in 92 innings.

He has now scored 12 centuries in Ashes Tests, equal second with Jack Hobbs behind Don Bradman with 19.

He has now scored 7 centuries in Ashes Tests in England, equal second with Steve Waugh behind Don Bradman with 11.

He has now scored 8 Test centuries in England, second behind Don Bradman with 11 for overseas players.

He became the 4th Australian to score two Test centuries at Lord’s (215 in 2015 & 110 in 2023). He joined Warren Bardsley (164 in 1912 vs South Africa & 193no vs England in 1926), Don Bradman (254 in 1930 & 102no in 1938) and Bill Brown (105 in 1934 & 206no in 1938).

He equalled the record for the most consecutive 50+ scores in Tests at Lord’s with 4 (2015-23 – 215, 58, 92 & 110). He joined Warren Bardsley (Aus 1912-26 – 164, 88, 63no & 193no), Frank Woolley (Eng 1921-26 – 95, 93, 134no & 87) and Nasser Hussain (Eng 2001-02 – 64, 57, 68 & 155).
