Since 1965
In 2002-03, we undertook an exercise to work out the playing numbers of all SDCC 1st Grade players in the order that they made their debuts. The initial list of player numbers had to be adjusted the next season when we realised that we had left one player out. The numbers were based on the first time players played a match in the 1st Grade competition.
Limited overs competitions were played from 1967-68 to 1975-76 and then from 1985-86 to 1987-88. These were separate to the main 1st Grade competition and the club championship. The limited overs competition was again recommenced in 1992-93 and has formed part of the club championship from that time to the present. From 1999-00, limited overs matches have formed part of the main 1st Grade competition, as well as being a separate competition.
At the end of the 2010-11 season, as part of a process of updating 1st Grade cricket records, the Sydney Cricket Association made the decision to include all 1st Grade limited overs matches since 1992-93 as part of players’ 1st Grade records, on the basis that they had been part of the club championship.
During the 2015-16, the SCA further decided that all matches played in 1st Grade limited overs and T20 competitions should be included in overall 1st Grade records, regardless of whether they had formed part of the main 1st Grade competition or the club championship.
At the end of both 2010-11 and 2015-16, we adjusted all 1st Grade player records to take account of these decisions. It didn’t occur to us to go back and review the order of the 1st Grade player numbers. When the 20 December edition of This Week In History was published, it included the Rothmans 1st Grade Limited Overs premiership on 14.12.69. Paul Venn pointed out that he was part of that side, but we had his 1st Grade debut date as 14.3.70. This prompted a review of 1st Grade debut dates based on the information above. As a result, the 1st Grade player numbers have been adjusted as follows:
Paul McCann – was 39 (1.2.69) – now 35 (21.10.68)
Kel Symons – was 35 (7.12.68) – now 36 (21.10.68)

Sit back and enjoy every boundary from Sam Konstas’ second century of the season, we certainly did!
With 3 rounds remaining in the 2022/23 season, Sam Konstas has already scored over 1000 runs in his first season for SDCC.
Sam became the first player to score 1000 runs in all grades for the Club in his first season with the Club. The previous highest aggregates in their first season with the Club were Phil Jaques (593 in 2nds + 223 in PGs = 816) and Jason Young (812 in 1sts) – both in 1996-97. He has also equalled the club record for most centuries in a season with 4, joining Les Johns (1985-86), Justin Kenny (1990-91), Matthew Bradley (1996-97), Grant Davies (2005-06), Phil Jaques (2005-06) and Jamie Brown (2015-16 & 2017-18). This is the second consecutive season that Sam has achieved both feats, having scored 1139 runs with 4 centuries last season for St.George.

During his stint of 31 runs on Saturday, Second Grade skipper Josh Horner passed 3000 runs for SDCC.
Josh has played a pivotal role at the club, particularly in the last few seasons, not only in a playing capacity but also as our second grade captain.
Onwards to 4000 — Well done Josh! 👏🏽
